Clothes Washer: An
appliance for automatically cleaning home
laundry. It has an opening on its top or its front offering access to the
washer tub. An agitator, located within the tub,
moves the articles to be cleaned through the wash water. The
machine is powered by an electric
motor connected to the tub and agitator via a
transmission,
clutches, and
linkages. In
front-loading machines, the articles are moved by a rotating tube rather than an agitator.
