Carnival glass is a coating which is applied as a liquid and sprayed onto the hot glass when it is slightly above 595°C.
The liquid carrier evaporates with the heat, and the result is a deposit of a metallic coating on the glass. The color can range from a dull orange brown on some Hemingray insulators, to a bright "marigold" carnival on many of the Pyrex pieces.
