Coaxial connection refers to a method of transferring digital sound information from the DVD player to an amplifier or decoder.

Coaxial connections are also used as the connection between a television and an aerial socket, although this is with a different connector. The coaxial connector used to transfer digital sound is a single phono-style connector which is typically maked black. This allows the higher information rate needed for DTS and Dolby Digital soundtracks.
