Top 5 myths about energy saving lighting

Energy saving light bulbs take a long time to light up.
Myth.* SMDs and LEDs reach full brightness instantly.

Turning a light on and off uses more energy than leaving it on.
Myth.* No it doesn't. Switching on an SMD or LED bulb only uses the same
amount of power as leaving it on for a minute or two. Modern SMD and LED
lamps also have a long lifespan unlike traditional bulbs which can be
damaged by constantly switching them on and off.
Energy saving bulbs produce low quality, harsh light.
Myth.* Modern SMD and LED bulbs lights are produced in many different
colour variations. If you want an energy efficient light bulb that produces
a similar light as a traditional bulb then you should buy a "warm white" or
"soft white" bulb, with a Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of at least 80. You
should find this information in the small print on the packaging.
Energy saving light bulbs aren't as bright as traditional bulbs.
Myth.* If you buy the *right* energy saving bulb such as SMD or LED it
will be just as bright as the one you're replacing. See

a huge range of SMD and LED lights.
Energy saving lights flicker.
Myth. *Modern SMD and LED bulbs light up instantly with no flicker
whatsoever.
The UK government, energy suppliers and many major UK retailers have led a
voluntary initiative to phase out traditional light bulbs, where there is a
suitable low energy replacement.
The UK voluntary phase-out is now being followed up by legal restrictions
on bulb sales across Europe.
Now really is the time to be changing over your lighting. Further
