Français: Harnais
A harness is a looped restraint or support.
In an industrial or industry context, a harness is a device or arrangement of straps, belts, or ropes that allows a worker to secure themselves to a fixed structure, such as a scaffold or crane, in order to prevent falls or maintain stability while working at height.
Examples of harnesses used in industries include:
- Full-body harness: a harness that wraps around the torso and legs to provide full fall protection for the worker
- Seat harness: a harness that only protects the upper torso and is used with a suspended work seat
- Climbing harness: a harness worn by rock climbers or workers ascending and descending ropes
- Construction harness: a harness used in construction and building maintenance to secure workers while working at height
- Rescue harness: a harness used by rescue workers, such as firefighters, to secure themselves while performing rescue operations
- Fall arrest harness: a harness that arrests a worker in the event of a fall, reducing the risk of injury.
