Acids are found in several household cleaning compounds, pool chemicals, solvents, wet cell batteries, and radiator flushers and cleaners. Acids, which have a pH range of 0 to 6.9, may be corrosive and produce severe burns on contact. Vinegar, which contains four to six percent acetic acid, is generally considered nontoxic.

Accommodation is defined as a sequence stratigraphic term for the amount of space available for sediment accumulation. Dominant influences on the amount of accommodation, or accommodation space, include subsidence and eustasy.

Accessory denotes an object or device aiding or contributing in a secondary way. Accessories is a general term which have something to do with supplemental or subordinate element added to another entity, appendage, or attachment ; that can be added or connected in auxiliary capacity. Accordion pertains to a hand-held musical wind instrument that is made of bellows attached to two rectangular frames on which buttons are mounted and, on some models, keys resembling piano keys.

Absorption-Type is a term introduced in ICRP's revised respiratory tract model (ICRP-66) to replace the clearance classes in ICRP-30. The absorption types are Type F for fast absorption, formerly called Class D; Type M for moderate absorption, formerly called Class W; and Type S for slow absorption, formerly called Class Y.

Accentis a general term which means contrast, outline or highlight for added detail and emphasis, e.g. accent lamp pertains to a type of lamp which is used for mood lighting, as decorative accent, or to draw attention to a particular area.

Asbestos is characterized as a group of naturally occurring minerals that separate into long, thin fibers. Asbestos was used for many years to insulate and fireproof buildings.
